Alternators

At Automotive Super Center our profesionals can solve a number of alternator problems, and get you back on the road. The alternator is a relatively simple component with only a few parts and it plays a critical role in your vehicle's operation. It essentially turns the energy of the engine's rotating crank shaft into electricity through induction. The wires inside the alternator cut through a magnetic field; this in turn induces electrical current. The current is then used to power your car's accessories, which can be anything from a CD player to the headlights. The alternator also is in charge of keeping the battery fully charged, which gives it the power it needs to start the car.

Symptoms of Alternator Problems:

  • Dim lights
  • Hard or slow cranking when attempting to start vehicle
  • Red BATT, ALT, or GEN light glowing on the dash.
  • Growling or whining coming for the engine
  • Smell of burnt rubber or hot wires
